Detangling synthetic hair extensions
Use a detangling spray and a professional hair extensions brush to remove tangles and knots from your extensions. Start from the bottom of the hair and work your way up towards the top of the extension for a thorough and careful detangling method.
Don't be alarmed if your synthetic hair extensions lose hair when brushing, this is normal, the hair loss should not be excessive or affect the style.
Washing synthetic hair extensions
- Fill a sink with lukewarm water
- Thoroughly detangle the hair then submerge the synthetic hair extensions into the water
- Once soaked through, lift from the water, squeeze the excess water from the hair then gently lather a mild shampoo into the hair
(do not scrub as this will cause knotting) - Once all of the hair is cleansed submerge the hair under the water again to rinse off the shampoo
- Lift from the water, squeeze excess water from the hair then work a deep conditioner through the hair, leave for 2-3 minutes while the conditioner is absorbed
- Then submerge the hair under the water again to rinse off the conditioner
- Lift from the sink, squeeze the excess water from the hair and pat the hair with a towel to remove to dry them slightly then leave to completely air dry flat
Drying synthetic hair extensions
Although our best advice is to always allow the hair to dry flat naturally there may be occasions when time is of the essence. In these circumstances, heat-resistant synthetic extensions can be dried with a hairdryer on a low setting.
Angle a hair dryer 4-5 inches away from the hair to speed up the drying process.
Warning: Do not use a hairdryer on synthetic hair extensions which are not heat resistant as the material could melt.
Styling Synthetic hair extensions
Synthetic hair extensions can be styled easily with the right tools and techniques. Start by using a specially designed hair extension brush to gently detangle the hair, being careful not to pull or tug on the strands. Avoid using combs, as they will struggle to remove the tangles successfully.
Next, lightly spritz the extensions with water to dampen them slightly, which will make them more pliable for styling. For added slip and moisture, apply a small amount of leave-in conditioner to the hair, focusing on the ends. This will help prevent breakage and make the hair easier to work with.
When using hot tools, such as a straightener or curling iron to maintain the original style, set them to a low setting to avoid damaging the synthetic hair. Keep the tool moving to ensure even heat distribution and reduce the risk of melting the fibres.
Finally, trim any frizzy ends with sharp scissors if needed, to give the extensions a polished and natural look. This will also help prevent tangling and keep the hair looking fresh.
By using a professional extension brush, leave-in conditioner, low settings on hot tools, and trimming frizzy ends, you can easily style synthetic hair extensions for a flawless and professional finish.
Top Tip: Pre-styled hair extensions can not be styled into a new look, heat styling tips are only for maintenance purposes of the original style.
Proper storage of synthetic hair extensions
Proper storage is essential for synthetic clip-in extensions to ensure that they remain in good condition and maintain their style. It is important to keep them protected in a zip-up case or a drawer to prevent tangling and knotting. By storing them in a secure and organised manner, you can avoid the frustration of dealing with tangled and knotted extensions when you want to use them.
Top Tip: Synthetic extensions packaged in a box provide the perfect storage solution for your synthetic hair extensions.
When storing synthetic clip-in extensions, it is also necessary to lay or hang them flat to maintain their shape and avoid bending. Hanging them on a hanger or laying them flat in a box will help prevent any distortion or damage to the extensions. Additionally, it is crucial to not leave the extensions half-hung over anything, as this can lead to them becoming misshapen and tangled.
Proper storage for synthetic clip-in extensions is crucial to protect them, prevent tangling, and maintain their shape.
